    What your CV keeps

    Stays as it was

    • Fonts, sizes, bold and italic
    • Headings and section titles
    • Dates and places on the right, kept as tab stops so they stay aligned when you edit
    • Your photo, at its size and in its place
    • The page breaks, so a two-page CV stays two pages

    Check after converting

    • A sidebar next to the main column is read across the page, line by line, so its text can mix with the main column
    • Coloured text comes out in black
    • A header or footer with your name stays in the body of the page

    Tips for a resume

A CV made from a Word file or Google Docs converts best, because its text can be copied out exactly. A scanned or photographed CV is read with OCR, which brings back the words but not bold and italic.

A typeface your computer does not have is replaced by Times New Roman, Arial or Courier New, with the spacing adjusted so each line still fits. If you have the original font, select all and set it again in Word.

Nothing is added to the file: no watermark and no link back, so the Word document is ready to send.

    Questions about resumes

Will the Word document look like the PDF?

Close to it. Lines break in the same places and the page count matches. A typeface your computer does not have is swapped for Times New Roman, Arial or Courier New, and the spacing is adjusted so the lines still fit.

Is this PDF to DOCX converter really free?

Yes. It is open source, there is no paid tier, and nothing is added to the file you get back.

    What happens to my files?

They are uploaded to this server, kept only while the conversion runs, and deleted an hour after it finishes, on a timer that does not wait for another visitor. A file is uploaded as soon as you choose it, so its first page can be shown; if you close the window instead of converting it, it is deleted there and then, and otherwise an hour later. Only the browser that uploaded a file can see it or download the result, and nothing is passed to anyone else.
